Aftercare process

Lip Blush PMU Tattooing

Lip blushing is a cosmetic treatment involving the permanent tattooing of pigment colour into the lips to give them a deeper shade, even the colour without the need to use lipstick.

What does the lip blushing procedure involve?

The entire process may take 2–3 hours, as it may involve before and after photos, discussion of final coloring, numbing time, the procedure, and aftercare instructions.

During the procedure, the technicianwill apply a topical anaesthetic to numb the lips. This may take up to 30 minutes to take effect.

The Artist will start to tattoo the pigment into the lips with a sterile disposable needle using a PMU machine.

After the procedure, you will be given the aftercare instructions and provide details on any necessary healing products to use on the area.

Does it hurt?

Some people may experience some discomfort during a lip blushing procedure as it is the most sensitive area to treat. The level of discomfort may vary depending on how each individual feels pain. The pain can be likened to a slight bee sting, lip blushing is minimal and similar to a scratching or pinching sensation

To minimize pain, we apply a topical numbing cream or anesthetic to the area beforehand.

If people are experiencing any extreme pain during the procedure, we can add more numbing cream or apply ice to reduce the effect.

How permanent is Lip Blush?

Cosmetic tattooing, Lip blushcoloring, is considered to be permanent, as it involves tattooing pigment into the skin’s upper dermal layer.Colour fading can occur over time, and if people wish to keep the coloring, they may need additional lip blushing to refresh the colour.

Exposure to the sun or other weather conditions may increase fading, our body can naturally break down the pigment over time and some topical products for the lips may also affect how long the colour lasts.

Precautions and possible side effects?

  • Infection: Unsterile equipment and needles or contaminated ink may result in infection. Touching the area after treatment.
  • Cold Sores :If people have cold soreson the lips, they may need to take an antiviral medication before having the procedure to reduce flare ups when tattooing the area. I still highly recommend all of my clients take L-lysine 2 weeks before the appointment and 2 weeks following the appointment to reduce the risk of a break out.
  • Allergic reaction: There have been reports of allergic reactions to some shades of ink in permanent makeup. This may be problematic, as the ink can be difficult to remove.
  • Granulomas: Granulomas are small areas of inflammation that occur when the body perceives a substance, such as tattoo ink, as foreign.
  • Keloids: Keloids are raised scars that can form in response to any injury to the skin. However, keloids are more likely to occur from tattoo removal than from a procedure such as lip blushing.
  • MRI complications: Some pigments in permanent makeup may react with the magnets in MRI scans. This is usually a rare and temporary occurrence, but people with lip blushing should inform their doctor or radiologist before having an MRI.

It may also be difficult to remove or reverse a lip blushing treatment.

Results

Immediately after a lip blushing procedure, the lips will appear a lot darker in shade colour. As the lips heal, the colour will lighten considerably usually by 50 % and the shade will soften to the colour chosen.

It may take up to 6 weeks for the lips to change into the final coloring. The membrane asks differently to skin and takes longer to heal.

You can resume wearing lipstick once lips are healed. Redness, swelling, tenderness, dryness are all common post treatment side effects are dissipated.

PLEASE NOTE: Lips are a muscle and WILL require a touch-up session, sometimes 2 touchups to achieve desired results. Lips are unpredictable. This is a cosmetic procedure some clients will achieve a very strong healed lip colour after one treatment, while others will only heal with slight change. This will vary on an individual basis. Clients with sun damage, scar tissue (from injury or fever blisters) and clients with implants may not have strong results. Hyperpigmentation can happen on any lip client without warning.

Healing and aftercare

First 24 hours you may experience some mild swelling and tenderness after a lip blushing procedure. At this stage, you could expect some tenderness, swelling, and intensified lip colour.

Some people may also experience minor bleeding or bruising. This may occur if the skin of the lips is thinner and closer to the vascular system. This will fade in 3 or 4 days.

People will see a much darker coloring of the lips for around10 days before it fades to the intended color.

Your lips will feel very dry, flakey and swollen after the treatment.  You will be required to apply healing lip ointment for 14 days or until no longer dry. This is a nornal process.

However, you should note that it may take up to about 4 to 6 weeks for the deeper layers to completely heal and for the pigments to settle. This is the time when you’ll see the final result of the procedure.
